As 2020 is coming to a close, many of us are looking forward to a year full of new beginnings. And as a custom home business, we’re always anticipating the next phase of design trends that roll around each new year. While trends come and go, it’s still fun to lean into the opportunity to experiment with change! So with that in mind… let’s discover 4 predicted design trends for 2021.

Nature-Inspired Prints

After staying inside for much of the year, prints and patterns inspired by the outside world are sure to make a splash in 2021. Much like many homeowner’s love for houseplants, humans are inherently inspired by nature! Expect to see botanical, animal and floral inspired prints in the form of fabric, upholstery and even wallpaper.

Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year

Sherwin-Williams announced their color of the year for 2021 would be Urbane Bronze, which encourages relaxation and comfort while still displaying an alluring sense of sophistication. The dark shade has gray undertones, which allows it to pair perfectly with other warm neutrals.

Sue Wadden, the director of color marketing says, “The home is now the ultimate retreat from the world, and color is an easy and effective way to create a personal haven. Urbane Bronze encourages you to create a sanctuary space for mindful reflection and renewal.” There is no doubt that calmness is to be a priority in the upcoming year.

Warm Earth Tones

Warm and inviting earth-inspired tones such as rust, mustard yellow, emerald, olive green and terracotta are all taking center stage in the design world. These colors are reminiscent of travel, which many are yearning for. Much like the earth, these tones are very grounding, providing a sense of tranquility and comfort. Warm tones are great at transforming the home into a cozy, safe place.

Artisanal Pieces

The importance of supporting small and sustainable businesses is gaining traction. People are beginning to take notice and truly appreciate the beauty of one of a kind, handcrafted pieces for their home! Whether that be decor or furniture, many say they prefer to purchase artisan pieces when available to them.

We love the challenge of implementing new and different trends into our designs! Here at Matt Powers, we’re looking forward to a year of change and beautiful, one of a kind custom homes.
