When you build custom with us, we ask a series of questions to get a good understanding of your needs and wants, so we can make design suggestions that will best fit your families’ lifestyle. For some families, hosting is something they do, or want to do more often. And as we all know, the kitchen is at the heart of every gathering. So, for those who love having people over, we’re talking about the most important features you should consider for your custom kitchen!

Choose the Right Appliances

Many hosts love to cook and prepare food for their guests. However, if you’re working in a cramped space, odds are you’re working inefficiently. Not to mention, dishes may be piling up, leaving you with no room to serve. That’s why choosing the right appliances is crucial. Besides a fridge with ample room, a large stove top is one of the easiest upgrades, giving you the ability to cook more dishes simultaneously. Additionally, consider a warming drawer, to keep food hot and ready before serving. We also find that some clients want to double up on certain appliances, such as an oven, dishwasher or sinks to improve their efficiency.

Luckily, when you build with us, you can have peace of mind knowing that we utilize energy efficient appliances to keep your utility bills low, while providing high-quality performance and longevity.

Oversized Kitchen Island

Not only are kitchen islands trendy, but they’re actually incredibly useful when it comes to hosting. Islands give you more counter space to both prep and serve food, as well as gives guests an area to sit and socialize while you are in the kitchen. If you choose to include an island in your Matt Powers Custom Home, we will do our best to maximize it’s storage abilities, including drawers, doors and even spots for appliances.

Ever heard of a two-tiered island? The different heights allow you to dedicate one space for cooking and prepping, and another for a buffet line. This allows hosts to easily keep things separated without worrying about a mess in the kitchen.

Entertaining easily and efficiently is possible with a little bit of planning and consideration ahead of time! This is just one of the many examples why building custom can truly change your life for the better.
